Frequently asked questions

How do I play?

Read the plate, use its category as a clue, and type what it means (GR8 DAY → “Great day”). You get three tries per plate. A missed plate costs a life. You can replay the tour from Help.

How do I restore my purchases?

Plate packs, the Supporter bundle and other purchases are tied to your Apple ID. On the same Apple ID, open Home → Packs & Shop and tap Restore purchases at the bottom. The game will tell you how many purchases were restored.

If nothing is restored, check that you are signed in to the App Store with the Apple ID you bought with, and that you are online. Still stuck? Email us (see below).

How does Say it work?

Tap the microphone button, then say your answer instead of typing it. Say it works in Classic and in Timed. The first time you tap it, iOS asks permission to use the microphone and speech recognition.

Speech is turned into text by Apple’s Speech framework. The app asks iOS to recognise speech on your iPhone whenever your device and language support it. If they don’t, Apple may process the speech on Apple’s servers under Apple’s privacy policy. Road Riddles does not record, save or send audio or what you said; the text is used once to check your answer. Details are in the privacy policy.

If you said no to the permission, you can change it in iOS Settings → Road Riddles. Every mode also works by typing.

How do Game Center leaderboards work?

Road Riddles uses Apple’s Game Center for optional leaderboards (Timed 1, 3 and 5 minutes, Daily Timed, Daily and streak; Say it Timed runs have their own boards). Sign in to Game Center in iOS Settings, then open Home → Leaderboards. Your scores are shown under your Game Center name. If you’re not signed in, the game still works and nothing is sent.

How do I suggest a plate?

Open Home → Suggest a plate (or Spot a plate if you saw one on the road). Choose Send by e-mail to open your own mail app with the message prefilled, or use the share sheet. The app itself sends nothing; you decide what to send. You can also just email [email protected] with the plate and what it means.

My answer was right but it wasn’t accepted.

Capitals, spaces and punctuation are ignored, and common variants (to/too/two, for/four, contractions) are accepted. If a plate still rejects a fair answer, email us the plate text and your answer and we’ll look into it.

What are hint coins?

You earn coins by solving plates, keeping streaks, finishing the Daily Challenge and unlocking badges. Spend them on hints: word lengths, a letter, or a skip. Coins can’t be used in the Daily Challenge or in Timed mode. Optional coin bundles are also available in Packs & Shop.

When does the Daily Challenge change?

At midnight in your device’s time zone. Everyone gets the same five plates each day.

Can I move my progress to a new phone?

Progress is stored only on your device (there are no accounts). A device backup or a direct transfer to a new iPhone usually brings it along with your other app data.

How do I start over?

Help → Reset everything erases scores, map, badges and coins. Purchases stay with your Apple ID and can be restored. New Game just starts a fresh game and keeps your progress.

No sound?

Check the speaker button at the top of the screen and the Music / Effects switches in Settings. The game respects your iPhone’s Silent switch.

Daily reminder

The reminder is optional and off by default. Turn it on in Settings and pick a time. It is a local notification created on your device.
